Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 9, 2013) – Behind a career-high six RBI by Nate Barnett and a season-high 21 runs, the Sewanee baseball team rolled over visiting Rust College, Tuesday, at Montgomery Field.
Tuesday marked the first time the Tigers have scored at least 20 runs since Sewanee defeated Centre College 26-10 on April 14, 2012.
The Tigers jumped on the Bearcats early with a seven-run first inning and never looked back cruising to the 21-3 win.
Barnett led the Sewanee offensive outburst with three hits, including a pair of triples, and six runs driven in. Jack Rogers pounded out three hits in four trips to the plate. Additionally, Ben Clune, Blake Williams, Jacob Walker, and Jack Whaley each had two hits in the game. Whaley also picked up three RBI, while Rogers and Michael Walker drove home two runs apiece.
Starting pitcher Lee Schurlknight picked up the win for the Tigers. Schurlknight pitched three strong innings allowing no runs on only one Bearcat hit.
Charlie Morrow and Jimmy Robbins also pitched, in relief, for Sewanee.
With the win Sewanee ups its record to 7-19 on the season.
The Tigers and the Bearcats will square off again at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow at Montgomery Field.
