Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 10, 2013) – A strong offensive outburst helped the Sewanee baseball team complete a two-game sweep of visiting Rust College, Wednesday, at Montgomery Field.
James Snover blasted his three doubles in five trips to the plate and scored three runs to pace the Tigers' 20-hit attack in Sewanee's 18-2 rout of Rust College. Sewanee held a commanding 13-0 lead after only two innings of play en route to the two-game series sweep of the Bearcats.
Michael Walker turned in a perfect three-for three effort that included two doubles, while Allen Thigpen picked up three hits including his second homerun of the season, a two-run bomb, in the bottom of the first inning. Thigpen also drove in three runs.
Blake Williams, Grant Goodson, Jack Whaley and Ben Clune chipped in two hits each. Clune was credited with three RBI in the game.
Mike O'Neil worked four innings, scattering four hits and allowing only one run, to pick up his first win of the season.
With the win Sewanee upped its record to 8-19 on the season. Additionally, the Tigers' 20 hits tied their season high for hits in a game (March 11 - Cazenovia).
Individually, Snover's three hits and three doubles were also season highs.
The Tigers will return to Southern Athletic Association play this weekend when they host Oglethorpe University at Montgomery Field in a three-game series. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday with the first game beginning at 12:00 p.m.
