Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 15, 2013) – Behind 13 hits and a strong pitching performance from freshman Worth Osgood, the Sewanee baseball team blew out Cairn University, 13-3, Friday during play at the RussMatt Invitational.
Osgood went the distance on the mound for Sewanee as he picked up his second win of the season. Osgood allowed three earned runs on four hits, walked two and struck out eight in seven innings of work.
Blake Williams paced the Sewanee 13-hit attack with four hits in five trips to the plate. Williams also had an RBI and scored four runs. Additionally, Jack Rogers turned in a solid outing at the plate with two hits, including a double, and two RBI, while Michael Walker and Grant Goodson each contributed two hits.
The Tigers led 6-0 after three full innings of play. Cairn was able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning with a single run.
Sewanee added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth with three more runs to make the score 9-1.
The Highlanders then scored two runs on the visitors' half of the seventh, but the Tigers responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to close out the game with the ten-run mercy rule.
The Tigers are now 6-10 on the season and will close out play at the RussMatt Invitational with a 2:00 p.m. game against Vassar College, Saturday.
