Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 8, 2013) – For 30 minutes the Sewanee women's basketball team and Southern Athletic Association (SAA) co-leader Millsaps stayed close. Unfortunately, down the stretch, things changed as a late surge lifted the Majors to a 49-40 win, Friday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
Early on, the contest was a low scoring affair. The Tigers were down by six, 25-19, at the half.
Out of the locker room played continued to stay tight. Both teams traded scores throughout the first 10 minutes of the half. After six points by Jamie Chauvin and a layup by Dee Bradford, the Tigers were down 13, 40-27, with 8:41 left.
A brief 9-5 run by Sewanee, pulled the Tigers to within nine, 45-36, with just over a minute to play.
After pair of free throws by Shatoya White pushed the Tiger deficit to 11, field goals by Kayla Sewell and Chauvin set up the final margin.
Overall, Sewanee made 14-of-39 (35.9 percent) attempts from the floor. Additionally, Sewanee finished a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line.
Individually, Chauvin led the Tigers with a career-high 20 points. Additionally, Sewell pitched in eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Forward Makayla Roberson led Millsaps with 11 points.
Sewanee will close out its 2012-13 home season with a 1:00 p.m., contest against Birmingham-Southern, Sunday.
