Box Score CONWAY, Ark. (Feb. 16, 2013) – Despite a four-point halftime lead, the Sewanee women's basketball team fell just short at SAA foe Hendrix, 51-48, Sunday inside the Grove Gymnasium.
The Tigers quickly jumped in front after a layup by freshman Jamie Chauvin capped off an 11-2 run to start the game.
Sewanee continued to lead when sophomore Kayla Sewell made a shot with 8:24 left which pushed the lead to 12, 19-7.
Despite a late surge by Hendrix, Sewanee led at the break 26-22.
In the second half played continued to tighten, after the Warriors scored the first five points.
Neither team would lead by more than four points the rest of the game.
The Tigers took their last lead of the contest when Sewell hit a pair of free throws with 2:44 left.
Unfortunately, Katie Coughran put Hendrix back in front with a jumper on the next possession.
Down the stretch Sewanee had a pair of opportunities, but both shots rimmed out.
Individually, junior Paige Lowe led three Tigers in double figures with a game-high 17 points. Joining Lowe were Chauvin, whom finished with 13 points, and Sewell, with 12.
Center Jamie Tate led Hendrix with a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double.
The Tigers will now wait to see who their next opponent is during first-round play of the upcoming SAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
