Strong first half lifts Millsaps past the Tigers

Box Score

JACKSON, Miss. (Jan. 6, 2013) – Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Millsaps used a 24-point first-half lead to put away the Sewanee women's basketball team, 70-40, Sunday inside the Hangar Dome.

The Tigers (5-6, 0-3 SAA) were limited early, after Sewanee made only 33.3 percent of its field goals in the first half. Facing a tough Majors defense, Sewanee also fell behind quickly after Millsaps built a 11-point lead by the 10:23 mark.

Down 43-19 at halftime, Jamie Chauvin made back-to-back shots to cut into the Tiger deficit. Unfortunately, Millsaps responded with two of its four second-half three-pointers which slowed any hope of a Sewanee comeback.

Ultimately, those two threes would help the Majors finish 12-of-24 behind the three-point arc.

Individually, Chauvin led Sewanee with a team-high 11 points.

Beverly Holmes led three Millsaps players in double-figures with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

The Tigers continue their three-game conference road trip with a 1:00 p.m., (EST) contest at Centre College next Saturday.
