Berry uses second-half run to down Sewanee

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 19, 2013) – A strong second-half by Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Berry proved to be the difference, as the Sewanee women's basketball team dropped a 72-51 decision Friday inside Juhan Gymnasium.

Despite being down 41-32 with 14:51 left, the Tigers kept the game close over the next six minutes. A layup by sophomore Kayla Sewell and a three by freshman Jamie Chauvin cut the Sewanee deficit to seven, 44-37, with 13:00 minutes to play.

After a pair of layups by Chauvin pulled Sewanee to within one possession, 44-41, Berry slowed the run when Alexa Evans made a layup.

Despite the Viking score, Sewell kept Sewanee close with 9:08 to play with another layup. However, over the next five minutes Berry found its offense.

The Vikings scored 15 points in seven possessions to pull away late.

Individually, Chauvin led Sewanee with a team-high 16 points. Additionally, the Tigers got great production from Sewell, who finished with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds, and Paige Lowe, who added 10 points.

Sewanee will look to bounce back against conference foe Oglethorpe, Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., (CST).
