SEWANEE, Tenn. 4/11/12 – The Sewanee Tigers erupted for 15 runs in the third inning on their way to a 26-0 rout of the visiting Rust College Bearcats today at Montgomery Field in Sewanee.
With the win the Tigers improve to 13-17 on the season.
Sewanee sent 21 batters to the plate in the bottom of the third inning and plated 15 runs en route to the 26-0 win.
A trio of Sewanee pitchers turned in strong mound performances allowing only one hit in the game and shutting out the Bearcats for the second consecutive day.
Hugh Osteen pitched four hitless innings to record his first win of the season. Relievers
Nate Barnett and
Jimmy Robbins held Rust scoreless over the final three innings.
Freshman
Jack Whaley led the 20-hit Sewanee offensive explosion with a 4-for-5 effort at the plate.
Wilson Nealy,
Allen Thigpen,
Connor Liston and
Charlie Hughes each had two hits in the game. Nealy paced the Tigers with three RBI.
The Tigers will return to SCAC play this weekend when they host the Centre Colonels in a three-game series. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday with the first game beginning at 12:00 pm. The final game of the series will be played at 1:00 pm on Sunday.
