Austin Shea pitched six strong innings in relief of starting pitcher
Lee Schurlknight today to pick up his first win of the season as the Sewanee Tigers defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 10-5 in Winter Haven, Fla. The win was the second in a row for the Tigers.
Shea entered the game in the top of the fourth inning to replace Schurlknight, who was forced to leave with an injury to his leg. Shea worked the remaining six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out four Continental batters.
Alan Komorowski turned in a 4-for-5 effort at the plate, while
Ryne Sullivan had three hits and three RBI.
Blake Williams,
Nate Barnett and
James Snover chipped in two hits each. Barnett and Snover each had two RBI in the game.
The Continentals held a 5-3 lead entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but a three-run sixth inning gave the Tigers the lead that they would not relinquish. A single run in the seventh inning and three more Sewanee runs in the eighth made the score 10-5.
With the win Sewanee moves to 7-11 on the season.
The Tigers will continue Russ-Matt Invitational play tomorrow when they face Fontbonne University at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Fla. at 10:00 am.
