LOUISVILLE, Ky
. 2/26/12 – The Golden Eagles of Spalding University defeated the Sewanee Tigers in both ends of an afternoon doubleheader played today in Louisville, Ky.  Spalding edged the Tigers 4-3 in the opener and came out on top 12-0 in the nightcap.

In the first game the Tigers trailed 4-0 after three innings.  A three-run fourth inning was all the Sewanee offense could muster leading to the one-run loss.

Allen Thigpen paced the five-hit Sewanee attack in the first game with a perfect 3-for-3 effort at the plate.  Thigpen notched two doubles and drove in one run.  Connor Liston and Jack Rogers each chipped in RBI doubles for the Tigers.

Freshman Grant Nicholson (0-1) suffered the pitching loss in his first collegiate start on the mound.  Charles Warren pitched six strong innings in relief of Nicholson.   Warren allowed two runs, none earned, on only three hits.

Lee Schurlknight (1-1) was the starting and losing pitcher in the final game of the three-game set between the Tigers and the Golden Eagles.  Schurlknight worked 2.2 innings allowing eight runs on eight hits.

Sewanee was limited to only three hits in Sunday's second contest.  Alan Komorowski had two singles and Thigpen picked up a double.
