LOUISVILLE, Ky. 2/25/12 – The Sewanee Tigers were defeated by Spalding University by a score of 6-4 in baseball action today in Louisville, Ky.
Sewanee's record drops to 2-1 on the season.
The Tigers found themselves down 5-0 after seven innings. Sewanee finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth inning when the Tigers scored three runs to cut the Spalding lead to 5-3. The Golden Eagles responded with a single run in the bottom of the eighth. The Tigers were able to add one run in the ninth, but the rally fell short making the final score 6-4.
Jacob Simpson (1-1) suffered the loss on the mound for the Tigers, working six innings while allowing five runs on 12 hits. Simpson fanned one and surrendered two bases on balls.
Nate Barnett pitched two innings in relief of Simpson allowing one run on one hit.
Sewanee was limited to only six hits on the day.
James Snover,
Alan Komorowski,
John Rafferty,
Connor Liston,
Ryne Sullivan and
Wilson Nealy all recorded one hit each for the Tigers. Snover's triple and Komorowski's double were Sewanee's only extra base hits in the game. Snover, Rafferty and
Jack Whaley each drove in one run.
The Tigers and the Golden Eagles will wrap up their three- game weekend set tomorrow with a pair of seven-inning games. The first game is scheduled to begin at noon.
