ATLANTA (Feb. 10, 2012) – Despite a three-point halftime lead, the Sewanee women's basketball team dropped a 67-64 decision at Oglethorpe, Friday, inside Dorough Field House in Atlanta, Georgia.
With the loss, Sewanee fell to 9-12 overall and are now just 3-10 in SCAC action.
The Tigers led the majority of the first half, after their defense forced 11 Oglethorpe turnovers. Up, 28-25, to start the second half, Sewanee extended its lead to four when
Logan Miller connected on a three-pointer, after an Oglethorpe basket.
After consecutive buckets by the Stormy Petrels, the Tigers pushed their advantage back to four with a
Kayla Sewell layup and free throw. Unfortunately, that would be the final time Sewanee led.
After Ky'Laine Rogers scored with a jumper inside, Oglethorpe pushed its advantage to six, with 4:23 left. From there Sewanee would make a brief run, when a pair of Sewell free throws cut the deficit to a single possession.
Up only two, 57-55, the Stormy Petrels again responded. Oglethorpe used a 6-0 run over the next minute to lead by eight, 65-57, with 22 seconds remaining.
Miller led Sewanee with season-high 26 points. The senior finished 6-of-12 behind the three-point line. Fellow guard
Alex Ginsburg added nine points while
Heather Baier pitched in eight.
Mareva Bone led three Oglethorpe players in double figures with 16 points. Katie Weeks hit 5-of-14 attempts for 14 points while Sarah Giles added 12.
The Tigers return to action with a 1:00 p.m. (CST) contest Sunday at Birmingham-Southern.
