Box Score ROME, Ga. (Oct. 12, 2012) – The Sewanee women's soccer team moved into second place in the Southern Athletic Association, as the Tigers defeated SAA foe Berry 2-1, Friday, at Ford Field.
With the victory, Sewanee improved 7-6 overall and 3-1 in league play. Additionally, the Tigers have won five out of their last six matches.
Sewanee took an early 1-0 lead after Sam Hutton's free kick deflected off a Berry defender in the eighth minute.
As second half action got underway, Jamie Samociuk pushed the Sewanee advantage to 2-0 when she scored off a corner kick.
Berry eventually got on the board, when Kari Detscher tapped in a deflection off Sewanee keeper Olivia Glascoe.
Despite giving up one goal, Glascoe stepped up and made a game-high eight saves. Offensively, Samociuk and freshman Emily Harvey led the Tigers with three shot attempts.
Sewanee will put its winning streak on the line, when the Tigers take on league-leader and rival Rhodes, October 19th. That match is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m., in Memphis, Tenn.
