SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee Tigers dominated the stat sheet and used a late second-half goal to defeat Covenant College 1-0 on Tuesday night.

In its season opener against a familiar non-conference opponent from Lookout Mountain, Sewanee (1-0) out-shot the Scots 28-7 (13-4 on-target). The Tigers had 18 corners and conceded none.

In the 79th minute, senior Stella Martin took one of those corners and found Kayte Dullye around the six-yard line. Dullye headed it directly off the serve from Martin for the lone goal of the match.

Sewanee kept the Scots from tallying a shot until the 17th minute, and Covenant took its first shot on goal in the 22nd.

Covenant's goalkeeper Bronwyn Kickasola was a tough match for the Tigers, as she registered 12 saves on the night.

Sewanee junior Arianna Shirak had two shots on target, including in the 84th when she took one from just outside the goal area. Kickasola made the stop, and the ball bounced off the left post and right back to Kickasola, who dove on top of it.

Sophomores Pope Scurlock and Josie Alexander also each registered two shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Emilee Scott made four saves for Sewanee.

The Tigers begin a road trip to Delaware, Ohio with a contest against Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. CT.
