SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 7, 2012) –
Despite being down only five points at the half, the Sewanee women's basketball team could not overcome a massive second half run by Centre, falling to the Colonels 68-43 Saturday inside Juhan Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Tigers are now 7-5 overall and 2-3 in SCAC play. Additionally, Centre (11-1, 5-0 SCAC) ended Sewanee's four game winning streak.

Early on, Sewanee stayed close with an aggressive style of play. Down 21-10, the Tigers forced three straight turnovers which started their charge. Junior guard Dana Middleton made the score 21-13, when she hit a three with 8:15 remaining in the opening half.

Minutes later, Middleton continued the Tigers rally when she hit a pair of layups off back-to-back steals making the score 23-21.

Unfortunately, that would be as close as Sewanee got. Centre pushed its lead back to five when Hillary Moore hit a three with 3:55 to play in the half.

In the second half, the Colonels used a 35-10 run the first 15 minutes of action to pull away from Sewanee.

Middleton was the lone Tiger in double figures with 13 points. Freshman forward Kayla Sewell added eight points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks.

For the Colonels, Benham and Paige Baechle each had a game-high 14 points. As a team, Centre shot 46 percent from the floor.

Sewanee returns to action with a 6:00 p.m. contest Monday at Covenant College (Ga.) in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
