SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 4, 2012) – Led by junior
Tyler Brown's career-high 21 points, the Sewanee men's basketball team earned a hard fought 63-51 win over regional-rival Covenant College (Ga.) Wednesday evening inside Juhan Gymnasium.
With the victory, the Tigers are now 6-3 overall.
Early on, Sewanee and Covenant played fairly even with neither team leading by more than five points. After Covenant held a slight 21-19 advantage at the break, Sewanee opened second half action on an 8-0 run.
Sewanee led by only three, 42-39, after Covenant's Joey Danek converted a pair of free throws with 6:57 to play. However, the Tigers responded. After a free throw by sophomore

Lewis Affronti connected on a three with 6:04 remaining.
From there, Brown started to take over for the Tigers. The Goodlettsville, Tennessee native extended the Sewanee lead to eight, 49-41, after he powered his way for an old fashion three-point play. After a Covenant score, Brown hit a three from outside the arc with 3:38 to play.
Later in the half, Brown would add a pair of layups to close out any hope of a Covenant comeback.
Along with Brown, Bryant added 14 points on the night. Senior
Trent Williams scored eight points while Affronti finished the game with nine.
As a team, the Tigers shot 51 percent from the floor. That mark, included a season-best 43 percent from three-point range.
Covenant was led by Colton McGriff who also had a game-high 21 points.
Sewanee closes out its five-game homestand with a 3:00 p.m. contest Saturday against SCAC rival Centre College.
