Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. (Sept. 3, 2011) – Playing one of the top teams in the country the Sewanee women's soccer team could not overcome the offensive firepower of 18th-ranked Lynchburg College, falling to the Hornets 3-0 Saturday at Shellenberg Field.
With the win LC improves to 1-0, while Sewanee falls to 0-1.
After a first-half goal by junior midfielder Shelley Hoath, Lynchburg added two scores in the second half by senior midfielder Brittany Klippstein and Dessi Dupuy to put the match away.
Overall, the Hornets outshot the Tigers 26-9, while leading in corner kicks 4-2.
Individually, Sewanee was led by senior forward Faith Spencer, freshman forward Bobbe Chaffin and freshman midfielder Jamie Samociuk. Each Tiger put three shots on goal against Lynchburg. Defensively, junior goalkeeper Britt Williams led the way after making eight saves on day.
Sewanee will look to get its first win of the season as they close out the Shellenberg Classic with a 11:00 a.m. contest Sunday against Roanoke.
