SEWANEE, Tenn. (Dec. 18, 2011) – For the majority of the time this season, the Sewanee women's basketball team has used its offense to win games. In Sunday's 45-33 victory over Birmingham-Southern, the Tigers switched gears and turned to their defense.
Sewanee is now 6-4 overall and 2-1 in SCAC play. The Tigers have also won three straight games.
Down 22-18 at the intermission, Sewanee came out strong to start the second half. Junior guard
Dana Middleton capped off a 10-0 Tiger run when she hit a three with 15:59 to play.

Heather Baier extended the Sewanee lead to 34-27, when she hit a layup with 10:30 remaining.
Birmingham-Southern would score on its next possession when Erin Moore's jumper made it 34-29.
After the Panthers pulled to within five with 9:56 left, the Tigers' defense clamped down.
Over the remaining time, Sewanee limited BSC to four points. In fact, the Panthers remained scoreless for the next nine minutes.
During that stretch Sewanee extended its lead to 13 before Kristian Moody finally ended BSC's drought with a pair of free throws with 1:38 to play.
Middleton led the Tigers with a game-high 19 points. Defensively, freshman
Kayla Sewell was a force inside the paint. Sewell grabbed 11 defensive rebounds en route to her 13 total boards. Sewell also finished the game with six blocks and four steals.
As a team, Sewanee held BSC to a 19 percent field goal percentage. The Panthers also committed a season-high 17 turnovers.
The Tigers will take two weeks off before returning to action against Covenant College (Ga.) January 4
th. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. inside Juhan Gymnasium.
