Trinity Tigers visit the Mountain for SCAC clash tonight

Box Score The Trinity University Tigers visit Sewanee tonight for the first of two SCAC doubleheaders on the Mountain this weekend. The Texas Tigers' women's basketball team will take on the Tennessee Tigers at 6 p.m. tonight, followed by the men's Texas-Tennessee tilt at 8 p.m.

The women's contest features a Sewanee squad still seeking their first conference win of the season against a Trinity team struggling to find a rhythm. Sewanee sits at 2-10 overall and 0-5 in SCAC play, while Trinity is 4-9 overall and 1-4 in conference action. The purple and gold Sewanee Tigers have dropped four straight, including an 87-31 loss to DePauw University on Sunday. Trinity started off the season 1-5 before winning two straight, but has since gone 1-4 and finally picked up their first conference win of the season, 60-48 over Hendrix, on Sunday.

Sewanee is led by junior Dani Kabbes (Chesterfield, Mo., Villa Duchesne), who is averaging 17.6 points per game and 9.5 rebounds a night. Her averages rank her third in the SCAC in both categories, making her the only player in the conference to rank in the top five in both statistical categories. Sewanee has two other Tigers averaging in double-figures: Logan Miller (Franklin, Tenn., Christ Presbyterian) is bringing in 11.3 points per game, while Claire Elliott (Louisville, Ky, Assumption) adds 11.0 points and 3.3 assists per night. As a team, the Tigers are ranked number one nationally in 3-pointers made per game, as they make 9.8 treys a contest.

Trinity is led by junior Abby Dietert, who is first on the team in scoring (17.2 ppg) and second in rebounding (6.7). Danielle Hubenak adds 14.5 points per game, while Jana Tucker contributes 7.4 points and 6.8 rebounds a contest. The Texas Tigers topped Hendrix last weekend for their first SCAC win of the season. Hubenak led the way in that contest with 19 points and five rebounds.

In the nightcap, the two Tiger squads bring nearly identical season records into the contest. Sewanee sits at 5-7 overall while Trinity brings a 6-7 overall record into the match up. Sewanee, though, is still looking for another conference win, as their only SCAC victory of the season came on a thrilling two-point victory over rival Rhodes. In comparison, Trinity is 3-2 in conference play after starting 0-2. The Texas Tigers have won three straight, including victories over Austin, Millsaps, and Hendrix.

Freshman Valentino Bryant (Hendersonville, Tenn., Beech) leads the homestanding Tigers, averaging 10.8 points and 3.1 assists per game. Classmate Anvil Nelson (Brentwood, Tenn., Brentwood) is second with 10.6 points per game and leads the Tigers in rebounding, grabbing 5.8 boards per contest. Lewis Affronti (Virginia Beach, Va., Norfolk Academy) rounds out the top-three in scoring, averaging 8.3 points per game.

For Trinity, senior Luke Caldarera leads the way with 13.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Freshman Robert Kitzinger is second with 10.2 points a night, while Zach Lambert adds 7.8 points a game. Trinity defeated Hendrix on Sunday as Caldarera poured in 18 points and seven rebounds. Kitzinger added 12 in the win.
