WINTER HAVEN, Fla. 3/15/10 – Trailing 4-2, Hamilton College exploded for eight runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 10-4 victory over the Sewanee Tigers today in Russ-Matt Invitational baseball action. The loss stopped Sewanee's winning streak at three games.
A pitching duel for the first seven innings, the game entered the seventh inning with Hamilton holding a 1-0 lead. Sewanee struck for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 4-1 lead. Hamilton countered with a run in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to 4-2.
Chris Mauro (Washington, D.C., St. Alban's) was brilliant on the mound for the Tigers pitching eight complete innings, surrendering two earned runs on seven hits and striking out ten Hamilton batters. Logan Ray (Estill Springs, Tenn., Franklin County) was charged with the loss in relief of Mauro.
Freshman Michael Joseph (Orlando, Fla., Dr. Phillips) led the Tigers at the plate with three hits and an RBI. Joe Reilly (Milton, Ga., Mt. Pisgah) contributed two hits and one RBI.
With the loss the Tigers fall to 4-9 on the season and will back in action tomorrow when they face Vassar College at 3:30 pm.
