2009 Baseball: #27 Piedmont Posts Comeback Win Over Sewanee

BOX SCORE

DEMOREST, Ga. – Sewanee wrapped up a weekend at \#27 Piedmont on Sunday and got out to a 2-0 lead on Rascoe Dean (Nashville, Tenn., Montgomery Bell Academy) and Franklin Pogue (Nashville, Tenn., Father Ryan) runs driven in by Bryant Denison (Baton Rouge, La., University) in the second inning. Piedmont rallied, though, and a two-run third followed by a six-run fourth sent the host Lions on their way to an eventual 17-8 win.

Sewanee fielded eight freshmen on the day and got 17 hits. Senior DH Trey Axe (Austin, Texes, St. Andrew's) got three hits and scored twice. Pogue contributed two hits and scored three times. Denison led with three RBIs. Piedmont had seven batters with two hits apiece. Matt Burgess (1-0) got the win on the mound for the Lions and Chris Mauro (0-1, Washington, D.C., St. Alban's) was the pitcher of record for Sewanee.

Sewanee is 0-2 so far and Piedmont is 2-0. The Tigers will plat at LaGrange next weekend.
