Tigers lead after opening round at Lee and Duncan Rhodes Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Maeve Fitzgerald carded a one-over 72 and is tied for second place individually as Sewanee sits in first place as a team after one round at the Lee and Joe Duncan Rhodes Invitational on Saturday at The Links at Audubon in Memphis, Tenn.

The Tigers finished the opening round in first place, seven strokes ahead of Oglethorpe and Berry, who are tied for second.

Fitzgerald opened her round with eight pars on the front nine, with a double-bogey on hole four. On the back nine, she carded a par-birdie-par-birdie stretch on holes 10 through 13 and added four more pars before a bogey on hole 16 to finish one-over 72.

Natalie Catapano carded a three-over 74 to finish tied for fifth. The sophomore opened with a bogey on hole one and added two more bogeys on the front nine. She started the back nine with a birdie-bogey-birdie stretch and added five pars before a bogey on hole 17.

Cat Gavin finished tied for eighth with a four-over 75. The freshman opened with a bogey, par and double-bogey before adding a bogey and birdie on holes six and seven. She started the back nine with back-to-back bogeys before carding six pars and a birdie to finish the round.

Elizabeth Bowman also finished tied for eighth with a four-over 75. Bowman opened with a bogey on hole one, followed by a par and three consecutive birdies. She added two bogeys and two pars to finish the front nine at even par before carding four bogeys on the back nine.

Payton Burch finished tied for 15th with a six-over 77. She opened with a double-bogey on hole one and added two more bogeys on the front nine along with six pars. On the back nine, Burch carded seven pars and two bogeys.

Competing as an individual, Anna Claire Gibson finished 37th with an 11-over 82. The sophomore opened with a par before carding bogeys on holes two, five, six and seven to finish the front nine four-over. She started the back nine with three consecutive bogeys, followed by three pars, before adding a bogey, double-bogey and bogey to close out the round.
