Tudor, Becker both finish in Top 5 for men's golf

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Seniors Elias Becker and Colin Edwards each carded scores of two-over 74 and freshman Aidan Tudor and Becker both finished in the Top 5 for Sewanee men's golf Sunday in the final round of the Discover Dekalb Emory Invitational at Cherokee Run Golf Club in Conyers, Ga.
 
The Tigers entered the final round with a six-stroke lead and teetered between first and second place for much of the day. Sewanee finished second behind host Emory University, with Emory playing the final three holes at two-under compared to two-over for the Tigers.
 
All of the Sewanee players started their rounds on hole No. 1 on Sunday.
 
Becker alternated between bogeys and birdies on holes 2-5 and recorded another bogey at No. 7. The Mexico City, Mexico made par on eight of his final 11 holes with a birdie at No. 13, but he bogeyed 16 and 18 for a two-over 74 and a three-round total of 217, alone in fourth place.
 
Edwards birdied the par-5 third hole but then double bogeyed No. 4. The Brookhaven, Ga., native bogeyed eight as well before four straight pars but then another bogey at 13. He eagled the par-5 14th hole and netted three consecutive pars before a bogey on No. 18 for his two-over 74 and a 54-hole score of 222, tied for 10th.
 
Tudor got off to a slow start on the front nine with three bogeys, a triple bogey at No. 4 and one birdie, at No. 6. The New Market, Md., native found his rhythm on the back nine with seven pars and birdies on holes 13 and 14, shooting a final-round three-over 75 for a three-round total of 215, solo third.
 
Sophomore Turner Chiles registered six pars and three bogeys on the front nine and another bogey at No. 10. The Houston, Texas, native shot even over the last eight holes with six pars, a bogey at 15 and his only birdie of the round at No. 18 for a four-over 76 and a 54-hole score of 226, 16th individually.
 
Sophomore Niel Phillips played the front nine in two-over with seven pars and two bogeys. The New Orleans, La., native made three straight bogeys to start the back before a birdie at No. 14 and four pars, but he doubled the final hole for a six-over 78 and a three-round total of 228, tied for 17th.
 
Sewanee's 'B' team of seniors William Cooper, Cameron Simons, Teddy Sotsky and sophomore Connor Natwick placed 10th among 15 teams in the field.
 
Simons carded a final-round five-over 77 with birdies on holes three and eight along with four pars and three bogeys on the front nine. The San Antonio, Texas, native netted five pars with two bogeys and a double on the back, tying for 32nd overall.
 
Cooper started the round with five straight pars before three bogeys and a double. The Charlotte, N.C., native added four pars, two bogeys and two doubles on the back but birdied No. 18 for an 82.
 
Sotsky collected a pair of birdies on the front nine on holes three and seven along with three pars. The Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., native recorded another birdie at No. 14, carding a final-round 85.
 
Natwick recorded a birdie on hole three and four pars on the front nine. The Charlotte, N.C., native tallied four more pars on the back, shooting a third-round 87.
 
Sewanee opens play in the SAA Championships this coming Friday at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn.
