Tudor shoots three-under 69, Tigers remain 10th at NCAA Championships

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Freshman Aidan Tudor shot three-under 69 and senior Elias Becker carded an ever-par round of 72 for Sewanee on Thursday in the third round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championships on the El Campeon course at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
 
The Tigers enter the final round in 10th place among the 18 teams still remaining after Tuesday's team cut. Sewanee trails Emory University by one shot, Mary Hardin-Baylor by four and Methodist University by six strokes. Aurora University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps are tied for fourth, 10 shots in front of the Tigers.
 
All of the Sewanee players started their rounds at No. 10.
 
Tudor posted six pars and three birdies on the back nine, with birdies on holes 10, 14 and 16. The New Market, Md., native added another birdie at No. 1 but bogeyed holes five and seven before ending the day with a birdie at No. 9 for his three-under 69, moving up 29 spots in the individual standings into a tie for 22nd with a three-day score of 216.
 
Becker started his day with five consecutive pars before a bogey at No. 15, but he collected birdies on 17 and 18 to make the turn. The Mexico City, Mexico, native made another birdie at No. 1 and recorded six pars on the front nine but also bogeyed four and seven for even-par 72 and a 54-hole total of 226, tied for 72nd.
 
Sophomore Niel Phillips rebounded from Wednesday's round with a one-over 73. He registered six pars on the back nine with a double bogey at No. 11 but also birdies on holes 14 and 18. The New Orleans, La., native birdied No. 1 but added another double on five along with seven pars on the front nine and has a three-day score of 222, tied for 55th.
 
Sophomore Turner Chiles improved his score for the third consecutive day, starting the round with birdies on holes 10 and 12 but also a bogey on 11. He collected five pars and one bogey on the remainder of the back nine. The Houston, Texas, native doubled No. 3 before a birdie on five. He bogeyed No. 6, shooting two-over 74 for a 54-hole total of 225, tied for 69th.
 
After two straight rounds of 70, senior Colin Edwards struggled more in the third round, carding a three-over 75. He posted three bogeys with a birdie on 18 on the back nine. The Brookhaven, Ga., native added birdies on holes one and three but recorded three bogeys in the final six holes and has a three-day score of 215, tied for 16th.
