Turner Chiles shot three-under par 69 while freshman
Aidan Tudor posted a one-under round of 71 for Sewanee men's golf Tuesday in the final round of the NCAA Division III Fall Preview on the El Campeon course at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., outside Orlando.
The Tigers moved up two spots in the team standings to 11
th among 24 teams to conclude the 54-hole event with a team score of 879, five strokes behind Washington and Lee and Kenyon College and eight back of Carnegie Mellon and Aurora College.
All of the Sewanee players began their rounds at No. 10 on Tuesday.
Chiles started his day with a birdie at No. 10 and added another at 16 before a double bogey on 17 left him at even at the turn. The Houston, Texas, native collected three birdies and no bogeys on the front nine, registering birdies on holes one, two and nine for three-under 69. He tied for sixth individually in the tournament with a 54-hole score of four-under par 211, two strokes from the Top 5.
Tudor rebounded Tuesday with a one-under round of 71, carding birdies on holes 11 and 14 on the back nine, making the turn at two-under. The New Market, Md., native added another birdie at two but bogeyed holes three and four. He moved up 30 spots in the individual standings in the final round, tying for 67
th with a three-day total of 226.
Senior
Colin Edwards shot a one-over 73 in the final round that included four birdies, an eagle, five bogeys and a double. The Brookhaven, Ga., native holed out from the fairway on the par-4 11
th hole, 145 yards out with a gap wedge, before bogeys on 12 and 13 and then birdies on holes 14 and 16. On the front nine he bogeyed the first three holes but came back with birdies on four and six before a double at No. 8. Edwards tied for 44
th overall with a 54-hole score of 222, just three shots from the Top 25.
Sophomore
John Circeo got off to a rough start with two bogeys and a double on the first five holes before settling down and posting a two-over round of 74. The Lexington, Ky., native birdied holes 16 and 18 to make the turn and added another birdie on No. 1 along with a bogey at two. He made par on the final seven holes and tied for 67
th with a three-day total of 226.
Senior
Elias Becker also posted two bogeys and a double on the back nine along with a birdie at No. 13. The Mexico City, Mexico, native recorded another birdie on six but also one bogey and a double at No. 8, shooting five-over 77 for a 54-hole score of 227, tied for 78
th.
After playing five rounds in eight days, Sewanee does not play again for almost three weeks, October 13-14 at the Tartan Invitational at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pa.
