Emerson steps down as Head Men's Basketball Coach

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee men's basketball coach Brian Emerson has resigned, as announced this week by Director of Athletics John Shackelford.

Emerson compiled a 68-68 over six seasons as head coach for the Tigers, including 18-9 this past year. Sewanee won the 2023 SAA Championships, advancing to the NCAA Tournament, and lost in the semifinals of the league tourney in each of the last two campaigns.

The Tigers posted a 49-34 record over the last three years, including 23-15 in SAA action.

Emerson spent two years as an assistant coach at Sewanee before taking over as head coach, registering a 12-14 mark in his first year leading the program. COVID limited the Tigers to five games in 2020-21 and a 6-16 campaign followed before a 19-10 mark in 2022-23 with the tournament championship.

Seventeen players earned All-Conference accolades and 46 students were named to the SAA Honor Roll during Emerson's six years as head coach.
