Baseball sweeps Saturday doubleheader against Otterbein

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. – John Bagwell's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh sealed a walk-off victory as Sewanee swept the doubleheader against Otterbein, winning 6-0 and 4-3 on Saturday at Montgomery Field.

In the opener, Charlie Teel led the Tigers with three hits, including two doubles and an RBI, while Matt Munn dominated on the mound with eight scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five. Sewanee tallied six hits, with Teel scoring twice and Blake Pou adding two hits, a run, and an RBI.

The Tigers struck early, scoring one run in the first inning before adding three in the third. Teel doubled down the left field line, and Pou walked to load the bases with no outs. Will Jennewein grounded out to drive in Teel, followed by a two-RBI single from Bagwell that brought home Pou and Tyler Pinson.

Sewanee extended its lead with a run in the seventh on Pou's RBI single and capped the scoring in the eighth with a bases-loaded walk, securing the 6-0 win.

In the second game, Sewanee edged Otterbein 4-3 in dramatic fashion. With the score tied in the bottom of the seventh, Pou walked to reach base, and Jennewein laid down a perfect bunt to move pinch-runner James Lard to second. Jonah Patton followed with a bunt single on a fielder's choice, loading the bases with no outs. Bagwell then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Lard for the walk-off win.

Will Jennewein and Wilson Irvin each recorded two hits, while Bagwell drove in two runs. Sebastian Leinberger and Irvin added an RBI apiece.

On the mound, Taj Donald pitched 5.1 innings, striking out four and allowing two earned runs. Joey Crews earned the win in relief, tossing 1.2 hitless innings with three flyouts, a groundout, and a strikeout.

Otterbein opened the scoring in the first inning, but Sewanee responded in the second when Leinberger's sacrifice fly brought home Bagwell to tie the game. The Cardinals regained the lead in the fifth, but Donald's quick reactions picked off a runner at home, and he closed the inning with a flyout and strikeout to limit the damage.

Sewanee took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth after an error and two walks loaded the bases. Bagwell reached on a fielder's choice to score Pou, and Irvin followed with an RBI single to right center.

Otterbein tied the game again in the sixth, but Crews entered in relief and quickly shut down the threat, stranding two runners on base.

With the sweep, Sewanee improved to 6-0 and will close out the series against Otterbein on Sunday at 11 a.m.
