Niel Phillips carded a final-round 79 and senior
Cameron Simons posted an 80 for Sewanee men's golf Tuesday at the Chick-fil-A Invitational at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Ga.
Phillips started at No. 5 and double bogeyed seven before four bogeys over a five-hole stretch from 11-15. The New Orleans, La., native collected his only birdie of the day at No. 16 and added two more bogeys over the final five holes for seven-over 79 and a 54-hole score of 222, tied for 14
th.
Senior
Cameron Simons also began the round at No. 5 and recorded bogeys on seven and eight before a birdie at No. 9. On the back nine the San Antonio, Texas, native registered three doubles, one bogey and a birdie at No. 14 and tallied two more bogeys with a birdie on four to finish the day at eight-over 80 for a three-round total of 227, tied for 35
th.
Senior
William Cooper got off to a rough start with three bogeys and three doubles on the first seven holes. The Charlotte, N.C., native played the final seven holes on the back nine in one-under with two bogeys and birdies on holes 14, 17 and 18. He finished the round with three pars and a bogey for an 81 and a 54-hole score of 227 as well.
Senior
Teddy Sotsky also did not start well, registering two doubles and four bogeys on the first six holes. The Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., native birdied No. 14 but collected three bogeys and a double over a five-hole stretch before four consecutive pars to end the day. He tied for 87
th with a three-round total of 245.
Sewanee placed ninth among 19 teams, dropping three spots with a team score of 324 on Tuesday. The Tigers conclude the fall schedule next Monday and Tuesday at the O'Briant Jensen Memorial in Greensboro, N.C.
