Niel Phillips posted a hole-in-one twice on Monday, both on the same hole, while senior
Cameron Simons carded a four-under 68 in the second round at the Chick-fil-A Invitational at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Ga.
The Tigers B team stands sixth after the first two rounds among 19 teams but only six strokes from third place.
Phillips registered the hole-in-one on his first hole in each round, the 195-yard eighth, with a six-iron in the first round and a seven-iron in the second. He bogeyed the par-5 ninth hole in the first round and made double bogeys on holes 10 and 12. He rebounded with three straight birdies on 15, 16 and 17 and ended the opening round with eight consecutive pars for even-par 72.
The New Orleans, La., native started with the hole-in-one again in the second round and registered eight pars over the next 10 holes with one bogey and a double. He birdied Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6 but added another double on three for a second-round one-under 71 and a 36-hole score of 143, along in ninth individually. He stands four shots behind the leader, Berry College's Landon Painter.
Senior
Cameron Simons got off to a slow start with a double bogey on his first hole, No. 7, and made a bogey on eight but shot even over the next six holes with one bogey and a birdie at No. 14. He bogeyed three of the last four holes on the back nine before five pars and one bogey over the last six holes, shooting 79 in the opening round.
The San Antonio, Texas, native started the second round with bogey-bogey before an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole. He birdied 12 and 14 and netted six pars with one bogey on the rest of the back nine. Simons finished with three pars and birdies on holes 2, 3 and 4 for a four-under 68 and a two-round total of 147, tied for 18
th.
Senior
William Cooper netted seven pars with only a double at No. 11 in his first eight holes of the day. He birdied Nos. 14 and 17 and added another birdie at No. 4 but registered a bogey at one and a double on five for a first round two-over 74.
The Charlotte, N.C., native double bogeyed his first hole of the second round, No. 7, but played the next 11 holes in even-par with seven pars, two bogeys and birdies on holes nine and 17. He completed the day with four pars and birdies on Nos. 2 and 5 for a second-round even-par 72 and a 36-hole score of 146, tied for 14
th.
Sophomore
John Circeo bogeyed No. 7, his first hole of the day, and made bogeys on holes 10, 11 and 12 before birdies at Nos. 13 and 14. He then recorded nine straight pars and ended the first round with a birdie at No. 6 for a one-over 73.
The Lexington, Ky., native birdied No. 7 to open the second round but then posted five bogeys and six pars over the next 11 holes. He added another birdie at No. 1 but also three more bogeys for a second-round 78 and a two-round total of 151, tied for 39
th.
Senior
Teddy Sotsky double bogeyed No. 9 and made five bogeys with a birdie at No. 13 on the back nine. He posted five straight pars on the front before a bogey on the last hole of the opening round at No. 6 for a seven-over 79.
The Ponte Vedra Peach, Fla., native bogeyed No. 7 to open the second round before six pars, two bogeys, two doubles and a birdie at No. 14 to finish the back nine. He recorded another birdie at No. 5, shooting an 82 for a 36-hole score of 161, tied for 79
th.
