Doyle, Prieto tie for first as Tigers win Whitworth Golf Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. – James Doyle and Drew Prieto tied for first place, leading the Sewanee men's golf team to a first-place finish at the Whitworth Golf Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington.

The Tigers finished four-under 572 for the tournament, winning by 19 strokes over Aurora, who finished second at 591.

Doyle started the final round with back-to-back bogeys on holes one and two before adding a birdie on four and an eagle on eight. The freshman added three straight bogeys before closing the round with four pars and three birdies to card a one-under 71. Doyle finished at four-under 140 for the tournament, tying for first place.

Prieto opened the final round with five straight pars before adding two bogeys, a birdie and a double-bogey to make the turn at three-over 39. The freshman responded with three straight birdies on holes 11 through 13 and added another birdie on 16 to finish with a one-under 71. Prieto also finished at four-under 140 to tie for first.

Jackson Lively opened with two bogeys before adding six pars and a birdie to close out the front nine. The freshman added three birdies on the back nine to finish two-under 70 and tied for sixth at two-over 146.

Niel Phillips carded a 75 in the final round to finish tied for eighth at four-over 148. The junior opened with a bogey, par, birdie and par before closing the front nine with four straight pars. Phillips added two bogeys and a birdie on hole 13 on the back nine.

Logan Johnson finished with a seven-over 79, recording five bogeys and a double-bogey along with 12 pars. The junior finished tied for 20th at nine-over 153.
