Taj Donald tossed six-plus shutout innings, combining with two others for a four-hit shutout, and
Charlie Teel hit a three-run homer in a seven-run fourth inning, helping Sewanee to an 8-0 victory over Huntingdon College and a three-game weekend sweep of contests in Montgomery, Ala.
The Tigers (5-2) defeated Mount St. Joseph, 7-6, on Friday and Vermont State-Castleton, 14-1, on Saturday before tossing the shutout Sunday against the homestanding Hawks.
Donald worked 6.1 innings, giving up just three hits while walking four and striking out three. The freshman righthander registered six ground ball outs, including inducing ground-ball doubleplays in the fifth and sixth innings.
Ryan Moll got five outs and
Henry Collins recorded the final three for the shutout without allowing a hit or a walk.
Teel's three-run homer came in the middle of the seven-run fourth inning while
Blake Pou and
Owen Andress collected two hits and a run scored apiece.
Luke Short added a two-run double and scored twice for Sewanee.
The Tigers struck for seven runs on six hits in the fourth inning, with
Mike Lewishall starting the frame with a hit by pitch. Andress singled to center and
Wilson Irvin singled to left, loading the bases. Short plated two runs with a double to right before Teel greeted reliever Seth Killam with a three-run homer.
Pou and
Hunter Herndon posted back-to-back doubles and
Will Yarbro's groundout later in the inning scored Herndon for a 7-0 Sewanee advantage.
The Tigers added a run in the fifth when Short walked with two outs and Teel and Pou were both hit. Another reliever for the Hawks, Gavin Gomez, hit Herndon as well, forcing in a run.
Sewanee opens SAA play next weekend at Birmingham-Southern and returns home to Montgomery Field on March 7 to face Cornell College.
