Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. –
Lily Reinhardtsen posted a goal and an assist and Sewanee recorded four goals in the second half, running away for a 5-0 victory over Covenant College in women's soccer action Tuesday night at Puett Field.
The Tigers (7-1-4) led just 1-0 at the half but collected four goals in a 13-minute stretch late in the second period, starting with Reinhardtsen's score in the 74
th minute on an assist from
Sonia Djurasovic, who played a ball from the half line to the back post and Reinhardtsen snuck it past Covenant goalkeeper Bronwyn Kickasola.
Thirty-nine seconds later
Kylene Monaghan's blast from the top of the box found the back of the net in the upper left corner, with
Lacey Carder and
Caroline Pulliam both registering assists on the play.
The Tigers earned a free kick down the rightside ion the 77
th minute, with
Kristina Wilkerson crossing to
Samantha Ferry and
Katye Dullye heading in the goal.
Susie Whitsett netted the final goal for Sewanee on Reinhardtsen's assist in the 87
th minute, tapping it past the keeper.
The Tigers outshot the Scots, 22-5, overall, including 15-2 in the second half.
Sewanee kept attacking and drawing corner kicks in the first half – four to be exact – but were unable to create a good scoring chance until late in the period. The Scots' best chance was halfway through the opening 45 minutes on a bad-angle shot from the left by Rachel Wall, easily saved by Tigers goalkeeper
Leah Atkins. AnnaLi Weekley's free kick from 35 yards bounced into Atkins' hands as well.
The third corner of the half turned into the first goal of the match, with
Ashlyn Richards delivering to backline mate
Kate Thomson, who headed in her second goal of the year to the far post. Sewanee nearly added another goal in the final 15 seconds, with Thomson playing a long ball to just inside the top of the 18 but Monaghan's shot sailed over the crossbar and the Tigers took a 1-0 edge to intermission.
Sewanee held a 7-3 advantage in shots but only forced one save by Kickasola.
The Tigers host Millsaps College for Senior Day this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Puett Field.
