SEWANEE, Tenn. - Announced on Tuesday by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), four baseball programs from the University of the South were named to the Academic All-District® Team.
Henry Collins,
Jadon Fetrow,
Matt Munn and
Cy Spencer were listed from Sewanee.
Formerly the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), nominations are accepted by current dues-paying CSC members. To be nominated:
- A student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The cumulative grade-point average may NOT be rounded up to 3.50.
- Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).
- No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years.
Collins, a sophomore from Sandy Springs, Ga., threw 28.1 innings and posted two saves during the 2023 season. He punched out 31 batters, including eight in a complete game shutout win over Olivet (Mich.).
Majoring in Politics with a Business minor, Collins is a member of the Order of the Gown, the SAA Academic Honor Roll, an orientation leader and a member of Sigma Nu.
Fetrow, a junior from Salem, Va., put together a .299 batting average with 15 RBI and eight doubles. Playing the outfield, Fetrow recorded 69 putouts.
Majoring in Neuroscience, he is a member of the Order of the Gown and a two-time member of the SAA Academic Honor Roll, he is also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Munn, a sophomore from Bellaire, Texas, secured an All-SAA Honorable Mention for the second straight year, posting a 7-3 overall record with an ERA of 4.70, allowing 31 earned runs in 59.1 innings pitched. Tossing 62 strikeouts this season, including a 14-strikeout performance against Oglethorpe, he lowered his walk total from 33 last season to 17 in 2023.
A member of the SAA Academic Honor Roll, the University Dean's List and Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Munn is majoring in Economics with an International and Global Studies minor.
Spencer, a senior from Denver, N.C., tossed 23.0 innings this season in 11 relief appearances, allowing eight earned runs for a 3.13 ERA. Between his 2022 and 2023 campaigns, in 21 appearances, he tossed 34.2 innings and tallied an ERA of 2.86.
A member of the SAA Academic Honor Roll, the Sewanee Dean's List and Pi Sigma Alpha, a political science honor society, he recently earned a degree in Politics from the University of the South over the weekend.
From the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), 14 student-athletes were recognized from Berry, Centre, Millsaps and Sewanee.
The Division III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division III Academic All-America® programs.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 7.
