Thomas Receives Newcomer of the Year Award and Eight Tigers Named to All-SAA Teams

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee freshman Jacorin Thomas was named Newcomer of the Year as the Southern Athletic Association announced its 2023 All-Conference teams on Monday morning. The Tigers also had eight players earn recognition on All-Conference teams. 

Jacorin Thomas entered his freshman year and earned his place as the starting quarterback for Sewanee. The Georgia native rushed for an SAA second-best 732 yards, averaging 4.4 yards per carry. He ran for a season-high 204 yards with two scores against Millsaps. Thomas scored 10 total touchdowns, running for five and throwing for five. He was 52-of-100 through the air on the season for 645 yards. Thomas was also picked up All-SAA Honorable Mention. 

Junior Keegan Glaze was named First-Team All-Conference as the linebacker and was instrumental in the Tigers' defense this year. He has 55 solo tackles and 35 assisted tackles for 90 on the season. He also collected 2.5 sacks for 33 yards, three forced fumbles, and a recovered fumble. Glaze added two quarterback hurries and three pass breakups. 

Jack Satterfield and Quinn Johnson were both Second-Team All-SAA honorees this season. Satterfield earned All-Conference honors as both a kicker and punter. As a kicker, Satterfield made seven of 12 attempts. His longest field goal was good from 46 yards, his farthest attempt. As a punter, he averaged 43.13 yards for the season and his longest punt was 74 yards. 

Johnson was a standout for Sewanee's defensive line as the fifth-year starter had 11.5 sacks for 91 yards, 46 solo tackles, and 26 assisted tackles for a loss of 19 yards and 188 yards. Johnson also posted two forced fumbles, three recovered fumbles, and five quarterback hurries. 

Joining Thomas, the Tigers had four other players receive Honorable Mention: Dyer Barnes, Harris Cravens, Kason Holder, Tucker Kirk, and Jacorin Thomas. Freshman Dyer Barnes tallied 31 receptions this year for 531 receiving yards and four touchdowns as a wide receiver. Junior Harris Cravens posted 37 solo and 26 assisted tackles. The defensive back additionally collected an interception, five broken-up passes, and one blocked kick. Junior Kason Holder collected 13 kick returns for 235 yards, as well as 36 solo and 17 assisted tackles for 53 yards. Holder recorded four interceptions and two pass break-ups. Senior linebacker Tucker Kirk posted 16 solo and 16 assisted tackles, 6 sacks for 43 yards, two forced fumbles, and one recovered fumble. Additionally, Kirk added a 46-yard pick-six and four quarterback hurries. 

The Tigers finished the season tied for seventh in the SAA with Birmingham-Southern. They finished with a 3-7 overall record and a 2-6 conference record.
