Brianna Fee and
Samantha Ferry both scored in the first half and Sewanee dominated possession en route to a 2-0 victory over Maryville in women's soccer action here Tuesday night at Puett Field.
The Tigers (5-1-3) ran their unbeaten streak to eight matches with the win, with the club failing to lose since the season-opener against top-ranked Johns Hopkins on September 1.
The Tigers started quickly, with
Lacey Carder playing a ball wide from near midfield down the rightside to
Maggie O'Hare. Her cross found the left foot of Fee near the penalty spot and the junior's shot to the far post hit the side-netting for her fourth goal of the year.
Sewanee continued to create chances and found the back of the net again in the 29
th minute. Fee's header off a corner hit the crossbar but bounced right to the foot of Ferry and her rebound got by the Maryville goalkeeper for a 2-0 advantage for the home team.
Ferry nearly scored again in the 35
th minute, with her left-footed blast from 20 yards drilling the crossbar. Sewanee took the 2-0 edge to intermission with an 11-1 advantage in shots.
Sewanee added eight more shots in the second half but no incredible scoring opportunities. The Tigers outshot the Scots, 19-3. Maryville goalkeeper Sophie Turner made five saves while
Leah Atkins collected two saves for the home team.
Sewanee plays its final two home matches of the year this weekend, facing Rhodes on Friday at 5 p.m. and Hendrix on Sunday at 11 a.m.
