All-Time Series: First Meeting

A LOOK AT THE SAINTS: The College of St. Scholastica heads to the Domain for a contest with the Tigers this weekend. This is the first-ever meeting between the two schools, and it is Sewanee's first-ever foe against the State of Minnesota. For the Saints, it is their first-ever game played in the Deep South. The Saints' trip to Tennessee is their only out-of-state trip they are scheduled to take this season.

CSS begins its 15th season of football in 2022, and they made five straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 2011-15. Winners of five straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Championships, the Saints made a conference change in 2021 to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Finishing 0-8 a season ago, the Saints are looking to end a nine-game losing skid. The team earned its last win on Nov. 9, 2019, knocking Minnesota Morris, 47-29.

Sophomore Anthony Vo is a lead returner for CSS in 2022. Wearing #11 as the team's top defensive player, he was an All-Conference selection last season with 68 tackles, good for second in the league.

LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN...: These two teams agreed to a home and home series in 2021, with Sewanee scheduled to make the trip to Duluth, Minnesota last year. However, as the team was arriving at Nashville International Airport, they was informed that the game was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.

Recently retired Director of Athletics Mark Webb sent a text message to our equipment team of Joe Dombrowski and recently retired Assistant AD Dickie McCarthy that simply read: "Football game canceled. Turn around", after receiving confirmation from the support staff. The equipment was in Madison, Wisconsin at the time of the text.

SAA PRESEASON POLL: In year two of the SAA Preseason Polls, Trinity was named the favorites to win the league once again. Ranked ninth in the preseason D3football.com Top 25, the Texas Tigers posted a 9-1 record and finished an undefeated campaign in league play. Trinity was defeated by eventual national champion Mary Hardin-Baylor, who won their second national title in five seasons.

Birmingham-Southern, who earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, and unlike Trinity, BSC earned its first-ever NCAA Tourney win with a 24-14 result over in-state rival Huntingdon. The Panthers join three other teams who earned a postseason win in the SAA-era: Berry (2017-18) and Centre (2018).

ADDING THE GLAZE TO THE TIGER DEFENSE: Sewanee sophomore Keegan Glaze returns for the 2022 season. An All-SAA Honorable Mention selection a year ago, he led the team with 81 tackles, including nine for a loss for 25 yards.

Against Berry last season, the Nashville native posted three tackles for a loss, including a sack.

YOUNG BACK UNDER CENTER: After missing much of the second half of the season last season due to injury, sophomore Jeremiah Young returns as QB1 for the Tigers this weekend. In six games in 2021, Young had 397 passing yards and led the teams with five touchdowns.

OPTIONS APLENTY AT RECEIVER: Sewanee's top receivers, Dagem Samuel and Cyrus Wilson are expected to complete the connection from Young this season. Samuel caught 221 yards on 15 catches and two touchdowns, while Cyrus Wilson added 113 yards on eight.

UTILITYMAN KIRK: Tucker Kirk, who played a number of positions for Sewanee on the offensive end, was a receiver to start the season, and by the end, was running Wildcat plays under center.

Listed as a running back to start 2022, Kirk rushed for 377 yards on 98 carries with three scores. The Dahlonega, Ga. native posted 399 all-purpose yards for the Tiger offense.

#Sewanee2026: Sewanee welcomes 20 to the football team in 2022: Garrett Gray, Ethan Gillespie, Max Grumbles, Tristen Hall, Niles Harvey, Adam Hickerson, Myles Johnson, Micah Millraney, Zion Morris, Brayden Owens, Chris Phillips, Gavin Potter, Walker Robinson, Michael Showalter, John Thomas, Tate Turner, Damerian Wigenton, Lukus White, John Wilson and Mac Wilson.
