Baseball to Open SAA Tournament on Thursday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of the South baseball program will open the 2022 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament in the Birmingham-Southern Pod on Thursday, as the Tigers will square off with the home-standing Panthers at 4:45 p.m.

THE BASICS
Quarterfinals: (8) Sewanee (4-34, 0-21) vs. (1) Millsaps (32-7, 18-3) | April 28, 4:45 p.m.
Striplin Field, Birmingham, Ala. 

(5) Hendrix (27-13, 12-9) and (4) Oglethorpe (19-19, 12-9) also make up the BSC pod. Sewanee's next opponent on Friday will be determined based on the its outcome on Thursday. 

RACKING UP THE PUNCHOUTS: Sewanee's 284 strikeouts is the most for the Tigers in the SAA-era, and the most since 2002, according to acquired records. 

Leading the charge is junior hurler Logan Martin, who is leading the league in K's (89), and he is ranked fifth in all of NCAA Division III in the category. 

Not only does Martin get the batters to whiff, but he also can fool them as well. 36 of his 89 strikeouts have been looking. 

GETTING HOT AT THE RIGHT TIME: Mike Lewishall has laced a hit in each of his last seven games, including four multi-hit games. In that stretch, the sophomore is 11-of-25 (.440) with two home runs, five RBI and five runs scored. 

The Brooklyn, N.Y. native is second on the team in hitting with 35 base knocks, five doubles and two homers.
