ATLANTA - Announced by the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) on Tuesday afternoon, two players from the University of the South men's basketball team have been selected to the postseason awards list for men's basketball.
Freshman
Russ Marr earns the league's Newcomer of the Year honors and was also named an Honorable Mention on the All-SAA Team, while
Colin Kahl earned a spot on the Second Team.
Marr led all newcomers in scoring, dropping 14.9 per game in 21 regular season games for the Purple and White. The Bryant, Ala. native posted double-digit efforts in 17 of those games, including seven 20-point efforts.
He recorded a 43.3% mark from the field and 36.9% from downtown. Additionally, he recorded 82 rebounds, 47 assists and 19 blocks.
Marr is the third player in program history to be named the league's Newcomer of the Year.
Kahl started in each of his 21 regular season games for Sewanee this season, as he finished fifth in the SAA in scoring with 17.6 points per game. The junior recorded double figures in 20 of the 21 games, and he tallied 20 or more in a game seven times.
Additionally, he leads the league in field goal shooting (60.6%), and is currently 22nd in the nation in the category, as he made 149 field goals. Along with a 70.8% mark from the charity stripe, he also averaged 6.0 rebounds per game.
This is Kahl's first All-Conference nod in his career with the Tigers.
