A THIRD LOOK AT THE PETRELS: Oglethorpe, who lost in the championship final to Berry a year ago, is looking for revenge in 2022. No surprise that Dimetri Chambers is leading the conference in scoring in 2022. One of the favorites for the SAA Player of the Year, the senior is putting up 24.4 points per game. Surpassing the 2,000 career-point mark in his career during the season, he has totaled 1,365 points with the Petrels in three seasons after transferring from Bridgewater (Va.).
Lane Foster (12.2), Uba Ezigbo (11.2) and Will Koch (10.3) also average in double figures for the Petrels.
2022 VERSUS OGLETHORPE: The two teams split their regular season series in 2022, with the home team walking away with the win in both games. The Petrels posted a 74-60 win over the Tigers on Jan. 14. However, the Purple and White returned the favor a month later with an 88-72 win on Feb. 11 inside Juhan Gymnasium.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: Oglethorpe holds the slight edge, 48-42, in the series. Sunday's meeting will be the 91st between the two teams.
SAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY: Sewanee is 6-7 in SAA Tournament games since the inception of the league in 2013. Against the current membership of conference schools, the Tigers are 9-16, and they are 14-27 in all tournament games dating back to 1963.
Sewanee and Oglethorpe will meet for the third time in the postseason, with each team claiming a win each in the series. It will be the first time since the 2013 SAA Quarterfinals they tams have squared off in an elimination tournament.
KEEP FEEDING TO KAHL: Colin Kahl posted 17.6 points per game in the regular season, good for fourth-best in the league this season. His 149 made field goals are third-best. Additionally, his 60.6% mark from the field is tops in the league.
