Swimming & Diving Opens Home Schedule at Sewanee Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South swimming and diving teams competed in its first home meet of the 2022-23 season with the Sewanee Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The women's team finished in third, while the men took fifth.

TOP FEMALE PERFORMERS
-Mary-Louise LeMieux posted two second place finishes in the 500 freestyle and the 200 butterfly. In the freestyle, she swam a season best of 5:24.34. In the fly, she clocked in at 2:17.48. Swimming in five total events over the weekend, she also posted a 18:48.89 mark in the 1,650 freestyle, a 2:20.40 in the 200 IM and 1:04.67 in the 100 IM. 

-Freshman Natalia Evans took third in the 100 backstroke with a 1:04.05 mark. She had a split time of 26.01 seconds in the 50 freestyle and a 2:16.11 in the 200 backstroke. 

-Audrey Francell swam a 26-second sprint in the 50 free, 57.49 seconds in the 100 free, 2:07.36 in the 200 free and 1:06.48 in the 100 IM. 

-The quartet of Natalia Evans, Riley Carswell, Sarah Mehany and Mary-Louise LeMieux posted a winning time of 48.10 seconds in the 100 free relay. 

-Katie Walker led the Tigers on the boards, scoring 187.35 on the one-meter and 179.80 on the three-meter.

TOP MALE PERFORMERS
-George Mabry led the Tigers with the top-three swims for Sewanee. He set two season-bests in the 50 free (21.99) and 50 back (25.03) and a personal-best of 52.71 in the 100 fly. 

-Naeem Mangum posted season-bests in the 50 breast (28.93) and 200 breast (2:29.97). He also swam a 58.34-second performance in the 100 individual medley. 

-Daniel Shrader recorded a season-best of 2:10.30 in the 200 IM. 

-Ben Jackson (147.85) led the Tigers on the one-meter board, while Jack Goodson scored a 124.10 to pace Sewanee on the three meters.

Sewanee will next host Berry in a dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 13.
