HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-In the opening game of the four-game series, Sewanee started the offense out with a bang. After a Zoe Crockett double to left-center and a groundout, Sarah Wright launched a two-out, RBI double to straight-away center field to put the good guys on top first.
-Next up, Peri Prestwood also recorded a double to score Wright, as Sewanee posted a 2-0 lead after one full inning.
-The Wildcats did not waste time getting even on the scoreboard. In the next half inning, with the help of a Sewanee error, Destiny Fitzpatrick scored the first run, and later, Ladayshia Williams evened the contest by scoring on a wild pitch.
-However, the Purple and White got the bats going in the third after going down in the order in the second. Thanks to a lead-off walk by Sam Dean, Alice Charboneau would eventually bring her in to score thanks to a double.
-Unfortunately for Sewanee, the lead would not hold up, as FVSU recorded a five-run fourth inning to claim the lead for good. The Wildcats also added a run in the sixth and another five-run frame in the seventh.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-In game two of the twinbill, the Wildcats picked up where they left off in the first game with a three-spot in the opening frame.
-Sewanee would dent the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, Trailing 3-0, after Dean and Alice Charboneau reached base and were at second and third, Wright laced a base hit into the right-center field gap to score Dean. The next batter, Peri Prestwood recorded a sacrifice fly, and Charboneau scored on the play.
-Leading 3-2 heading into the later innings, FVSU added a key insurance run in the top of the sixth thanks to an RBI double, but that did not phase the Tigers. Three straight batters led off the frame base knocks, led by Prestwood's RBI single to score Charboneau.
-After a flyout, Michaela Walker posted an RBI double to score Wright to even the game at four runs each. Two batters later, Hanna Judycki made contact with a two-run double to give the Purple and White its first lead of the game, 6-4, as the contest headed to the seventh.
-However, the Wildcats did not go away quietly. With one out, Janecia Barber posted an RBI triple to deep right-center field to score two runs and tie the game again at six runs each. Next, Keteria Loney posted the go-ahead run via a sacrifice fly.
-Sewanee would respond in the bottom half of the seventh. Down to their final out, the Tigers' final four batters reached base, with three hits going to left field. With runners at first and second, Kendell Goodrum brought home the tying run thanks to a base hit. Prestwood, who started the rally with a base hit, stood 60 feet away from winning it.
-After a four-pitch walk to run the bases full, freshman Summer Vo poked a ball to left field where it found grass, and Prestwood touched the plate for the walk-off winner.
