SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South volleyball team snapped its three-match losing streak with a straight-set victory over Maryville College in non-conference action, Wednesday evening inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Purple and White steamrolled past the visitors in the first two sets with identical 25-15 set scores. In those two sets, Sewanee posted 24 kills and allowed Maryville to 14 kills while committing 16 errors.
-The contest picked up in the third set. The Tigers posted 18 kills in the set, but it would not come easy. Late in the frame, Sewanee was down 23-21 and rallied to score three straight points to clinch match point. However, the Scots would prevail and returned the match to a deuce.
-On the Tigers' third attempt on match point, they were able to win the match thanks to a Maryville attack error.

After defeating the Scots for the first time since 1999 earlier this season, totaling 15 matches, the Purple and White defeated Maryville at home for the first time since Oct. 12, 1996, downing the Scots in four sets.

Ellie Pedersen killed 12 attacks on 19 swings with one error committed, finishing with a .529 percentage. Totaling 13 points on the night, the senior added two block assists.

Lydia Goffi scored 16 points on the night thanks to a 12-kill performance and added three aces and two block assists.

Lilly Reilly contributed with 14 digs and three aces, while
Adele Cassidy posted 13 digs and three aces.
-Sewanee totaled 11 aces on the night, missing their season mark by one. Sewanee's .212 hitting percentage was the third-best on the year.
MARYVILLE KEY STATISTICS
-Isabella Samson led Maryville with six kills, while Natalie Watts dug out 15 attacks.

Sewanee will host Rhodes and No. 13 Emory for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon beginning at noon and 4 p.m., respectively.
