ATLANTA - Announced on Tuesday afternoon by the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), middle blocker
Olivia Jones of the University of the South volleyball team has been chosen as the SAA Offensive Player of the Week, as chosen by the conference's head volleyball coaches.
The Goodlettsville, Tenn. native posted 17 kills on the week and committed one error on 38 swings for a .421 attack percentage.
In the Tigers' sweep over Birmingham-Southern, who were receiving votes in last week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, the freshman totaled nine points thanks to two assisted blocks and eight kills. Additionally, she finished with a .500 hitting percentage with one error committed on 14 attempts.
The next day versus Millsaps, Jones recorded nine kills and two block assists in Sewanee's five-set thrilling victory. Making 24 attempts on the front line, she did not make a mistake on the day.
So far this season, Jones has 90 kills, 108.5 points and a .249 hitting percentage.
This is the second straight week the program has won the Offensive Player of the Week award.
Ellie Pedersen claimed the award last week.
Sewanee returns to action on Friday night against No. 15 Berry.
