Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Sewanee men's lacrosse team could not keep pace with the Pioneers of Transylvania in the second half, as the home team outscored, 5-2, in the second half en route to a 9-7 win over Sewanee, Saturday afternoon from Pat Deacon Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee came out strong with back-to-back goals by Ryan Hofstetter and Drew Crain four minutes into the contest.
-Transy netted its first goal of the game with the failed clear and turnover. After Ethan Patton forced the ball out, T.J. Toivonen picked up the ground ball and scored.
-After winning the face off by Alex DiNardo, and a wide shot by Sewanee, Hofstetter netted his second goal of the contest to extend the lead to 3-1 with nine minutes remaining in the opening quarter.
-The Tigers had an opportunity to score on a man-up due to a 30-second interference penalty, but a saved shot by TU's Michael Webb ended the chance.
-33 seconds later, however, Hofstetter passed to Drew Mullen who pushed the lead to 4-1 in favor of the visitors.
-Transy scored a little over a minute later, thanks again to a Sewanee failed clear and turnover to make it 4-2 after one quarter of play.
-The Pioneers added another goal with 13 minutes left in the half on a Toivonen goal to cut the deficit to 4-3.
-However, two minutes later, after a Transy failed clear and turnover caused by Kip McGuire, Hofstetter picked up the ground ball and scored his third goal of the game to record the hat trick.
-TU posted another goal to make it 5-4 in favor of the Tigers at the halftime break.
-Transy came out strong in the third quarter, claiming its first lead of the game with 8:55 left in the period and scoring three goals. The Pioneers defense limited the Tigers to no goals and seven shots, one on goal.
-The home team added two more goals to lead 9-5 with nine minutes to go in the contest. The Tigers attempted a comeback rally with goals by Jake Westfall (4:15) and Drew Mullen (1:43), but they came up short.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Ryan Hofstetter posted a hat trick on five shots to lead the Sewanee offense.
-Drew Mullen added two goals, while Hampton Brannon (1-5) stopped eight shots.
TRANSYLVANIA KEY STATISTICS
-Dalton Hubbs, Trenton Sneed and T.J. Toivonen each scored twice for the Pioneers. Hubbs also added three forced turnovers.
-Michael Webb (3-2) posted nine saves in full time.

The conference opener for Sewanee will happen on Friday against Birmingham-Southern in the Magic City.
