Baseball Explodes for 22 Runs in Victory over Iowa Wesleyan

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee baseball team scored in each of the first four innings to rout Iowa Wesleyan, 22-8, Thursday afternoon from Montgomery Field. Originally scheduled for a doubleheader, the game was delayed over three hours due to foggy conditions. Because of this, the second game was canceled.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After a three-up, three-down top of the first inning, the Tigers offense went to work, as four of the first batters reached base. After a strikeout, Shane Smith and Braxton Swanson each contributed back-to-back RBI base knocks.

-Following a flyout, the next three Tigers posted run-scoring play. Jake Woolard drove in two on an RBI triple, while Wesley House posted an RBI double. The sixth run of the inning was scored by House, as Dunbar reached first on a fielding error.

-In the second inning, with two outs, Galanek posted a two-run triple and later scored on a wild pitch. House later posted an RBI double to put the contest to 10-0 in favor of the home Tigers.

-After Iowa Wesleyan pushed across three runs in the third, the Tigers added five more in the bottom half of the frame, capped by a bases-clearing, three-run triple by Swanson.

-The Sewanee offense added seven more runs in the fourth, capped by a three-run dinger by Jared Demkowicz. Later in the frame, Jack Ahlum posted a two-run double.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Braxton Swanson posted four RBI on a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored.

-Chris McNulty scored four times, while Shane Smith added three runs.

-Jared Demkowicz, Jake Woolard and Jack Galanek each drove in three RBI.

-Sewanee posted a 10-for-19 (.526) mark with runners in scoring position, while the team went 15-of-27 (.556) with runners on base).

-Zach Brodsky (1-0) earned the win in relief, tossing two innings and allowing three base runners.

IOWA WESLEYAN KEY STATISTICS
-Nicholas Salas, Ricardo Mollison and Connor Martin each scored two RBI in the contest.

-Salas and Martin each launched a homer in the game.

-Clayton Lathen (0-1) allowed nine earned runs in an inning and two-thirds.
