Softball Begins 2020 Campaign on the Road

MARION, Ala. / FORT VALLEY, Ga. - The Sewanee softball team opened the 2020 season with back-to-back doubleheaders on the road at Judson (Ala.) and Fort Valley State (Ga.).

HOW IT HAPPENED, JUDSON
-In game one, Judson posted a 4-0 lead after two innings before the home team put the contest away with a four-run fifth to secure the 8-0 victory.

-In the second game, Judson posted a six-run second inning en route to a 10-0 victory.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Hanna Judycki totaled two hits in the doubleheader.

JUDSON KEY STATISTICS
-Charlie Sturdivant and Madi Snow each recorded two hits, while Sturdivant added three RBI in the first game.

-Kaylen Holtzapfel posted three hits and four RBI in the second contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED, FORT VALLEY STATE
-In the first game against the Wildcats, the home team posted two runs in the bottom of the second thanks to a Reyleigh Murray double and a Kayla Phillips sacrifice fly.

-In the fourth, Phillips posted her second RBI of the game to extend the lead to 3-0.

-Sewanee was limited to just four hits in the contest.

-In game two, the Tigers got the offense in gear, all without the benefit of a hit. Kendell Goodrum brought Maggie Willis home on an error.

-Sarah Wright next contributed a free pass to score Hannah Clarke to make it 2-0.

-Following a pitching change by FVSU, Alice Charboneau reached base on the second error of the inning, and Prestwood crossed home plate to give Sewanee the 3-0 advantage after a half-inning.

-In the fifth, FVSU posted a six-run inning thanks to three two-run base hits by Kayla Phillips, Shakerra Geter and Destiny Fitzpatrick.

-The Tigers, down to their final out, were able to get the tying run to the plate, but a fielder's choice to third base completed the sweep for the Wildcats.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Sarah Wright posted an RBI in the second game, while Maggie Willis, Peri Prestwood and Hannah Clark each scored a run.

FORT VALLEY STATE KEY STATISTICS
-Tyanna Askey led FVSU with three hits in game one, while Ladayshia Williams and Shakerra Geter posted two hits each in the second game.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will next compete at Johnson in Knoxville on Saturday.
