Field Hockey Roars Back to Down Transy

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee field hockey team saw its five-game losing streak come to an end on Sunday with a 6-3 victory over the Pioneers of Transylvania Sunday morning from Puett Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After claiming the overtime victory over Sewanee on Saturday, Transy started the scoring early in the contest. In the seventh minute, Tori Coleman scored the opening goal of the game.

-The Tigers evened the match at a goal apiece in the 24th minute. After Alex Hornsby's shot was saved by the keeper, Buckley Norman struck for her fourth goal of the season.

-Coming out of the intermission, Sewanee's sticks got hot real quick. Hannah Bradley found the pass from Hornsby in the 36th minute, and a little over a minute later, Hornsby found Norman for her second of the contest and fifth of the year.

-Transylvania responded with a 41st minute goal. After Anne Cleveland recorded a defensive save, Brianna McCulley scored her second goal of the year to cut the deficit to 3-2.

-The fourth quarter saw three goals in the first 2:28 of the period. Ceara Caffrey found Norman's pass for her 11th goal of the season 21 seconds into the final stanza.

-30 seconds later, Molly Uhls struck for her first goal of the season to make it 4-3 in favor of the Tigers.

-In the 48th minute, Caffrey and Norman came together again for the fifth goal of the contest.

-The Tigers added an insurance goal off a penalty corner in the 57th minute. After Caroline Sugar inserted the corner, Cleveland picked up the pass and found Caffrey for her third goal of the quarter and her 13th of the year.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Buckley Norman and Ceara Caffrey each recorded five total shots. Caffrey recorded a hat trick, while Norman added six points on two goals and assists each.

-After taking one shot in the opening quarter, the Tigers took 17 the rest of the contest. Additionally, the team had 10 penalty corners, five came in the second quarter.

-Barbara Canty (3-8) saved five shots in full time.

TRANSYLVANIA KEY STATISTICS
-Harper Zeitz, Tori Coleman, Makenna Saward and Emma Uhls each had three shots for the Pioneers.

-Sidney Varney (3-7) recorded three saves in 60 minutes.
