SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's lacrosse team earned a first round win in the 2018 Southern Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Tournament with an 11-9 win over Hendrix Friday night from historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Hendrix opened the contest with three goals, and held the Tigers scoreless for the first 13:02. Henry Burns broke the scoring with a man-up goal with 1:58 left in the opening period.
-The visitors added an early second quarter goal to make the contest 4-1, but Sewanee responded with four unanswered goals to take a 5-4 lead at intermission.
-The Tigers won the third period with a 5-4 advantage, leading 10-8 after 45 minutes of play.
-With 10:05 left in regulation, the Warriors made a one-goal game. After a Sewanee faceoff win and a shot attempt, Hendrix turned the ball over and gave possession back to the home team. With 8:06 remaining, Jake Vaughn laced a key insurance goal to seal the match.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Henry Burns led all scorers with five goals on six total shots.
-Jake Vaughn and Wil Friedman each scored twice for Sewanee.
-Bayard Anderson forced three turnovers, while Ryan Stubitz and Alex DiNardo scooped up seven grounders each.
-Tal Wharton (4-2) saved three shots in the second half.
HENDRIX KEY STATISTICS
-Garrett Brown scored four times, while Jack Gorman assisted on two shots.
-Reed Mershon collected five groundballs.
-Taylor Noack (5-6) saved 10 shots in full time.
