Sewanee Baseball Falls to Berry

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee baseball team could not keep up with the offense of Berry on Friday afternoon, as the Vikings launched five home runs en route to a 21-6 win over the Tigers from Montgomery Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After an RBI groundout by the Vikings, Jacob Delk launched a solo homer to make it 2-0 before the Tigers got the change to bat.

-The lead did not last long for the visitors thanks to back-to-back solo shots by Jared Demkowicz and Chris McNulty.

-Berry came storming back after the first, scoring 19 unanswered runs, including scoring in each inning but the sixth.

-Sewanee's third run scored on an RBI double by Trey Akins, and in the fourth, Riley Brandvold brought Jake Woolard home on a single for the fourth run.

-Drew Mancuso brought McNulty home in the fifth on an RBI double, and the Tigers scoring ended with a seventh inning homer by Akins.

-The contest saw seven combined home runs, 27 runs and 35 hits.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Trey Akins was a triple shy of the cycle with a 3-for-4 day with a triple and a home run.

-Chris McNulty, Riley Brandvold and Bryce Benedict each tallied two hits.

-Drew Mancuso (3-4) allowed 10 earned runs in 3.1 innings.

BERRY KEY STATISTICS
-Jacob Delk and Tyler Calvert each tallied four hits for the Vikings. Both players launched homers in the contest, with Calvert going deep twice and driving in four runs.

-Delk and Quinn Smith each scored four times for Berry.

-Ben Coker (8-1) allowed six earned in seven innings with three strikeouts.

Pending weather conditions, the teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader at noon to conclude the home schedule.
