Sewanee Unable to Hold First Half Lead in Season Finale to Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Sewanee men's basketball team suffered a 76-64 loss to Centre College on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Colonels will host the 2018 Southern Athletic Association Tournament, while the Tigers will enter as the 2-seed.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Colonels started the contest on a 7-2 run in nearly a five-minute span.

-Sewanee responded with a 7-2 run of their own to even the score at nine with 14 minutes to go.

-The Tigers pushed the lead to six points, 36-30, at the break.

-Centre opened the second half on an 8-0 run to retake the lead, 38-36, with 17:31 left in regulation.

-The teams went back and forth after Sewanee tied the contest at 38 with 17:16 left. With 7:12 to go, tied at 55, Centre went on an 11-2 run in about four minutes to seal the contest.

SAA TOURNAMENT
-With Saturday's loss at Centre, the Colonels will host the 2018 SAA Tournament beginning next Friday.

-Sewanee will enter as a 2-seed and will play 7-seed Hendrix in the quarterfinals.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Adrian Thomas led all scorers with 26 points on 13-of-16 shooting and 16 rebounds. The sophomore scored 18 of his 26 points in the second half on 9-of-10 shooting

-Luke Smith added 20 points for his sixth 20-point performance of the season.

CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Jacob Bates led Centre with 20 points off the bench, while Perry Ayers scored 19.

UP NEXT
The 2018 SAA Tournament begins on Friday with 7-seed Hendrix. Times for the quarterfinal round are yet to be announced.
